A press release from Nintendo details how the experience in Defenders of the Triforce will differ from typical escape room challenges. In lieu of the standard task of escaping from a locked room, players will attempt to solve mysteries within a specific time limit. According to Nintendo, there will be six players working together in a “huge area,” as they call it.
Even the event website asserts that Defenders of the Triforce isn’t the usual escape room game.

Defenders of the Triforce is heading to eight cities around the United States, which will begin in January 2017. This is the schedule laid out so far:
San Francisco – Jan. 31-Feb. 5 Los Angeles – Feb. 10-12 San Diego – Feb. 24-25 Seattle – TBD Phoenix – TBD Houston – TBD Chicago – TBD New York – TBD
The event itself should last an estimated one and a half hours and ticket prices vary depending on when they are purchased. Early bird pricing starts at $36, with regular pricing bumping that up to $41, and $46 at the door. For more information on prices and scheduling, check out the event website.
Defenders of the Triforce could turn out to be an incredible experience for fans of The Legend of Zelda, which, at its core, is an escape room game series already. Traversing dungeons, solving puzzles, and unlocking rooms has been the name of the game since the 1980s. Of course, with Breath of the Wild most of what we know of traditional Zelda seems to be getting flipped on its head.
While many thought the world would find out what the newest game in the series had in store next March, it’s presumed release date, Nintendo has officially denied it. Breath of the Wild still sits at a 2017 release window, but it likely won’t be a Nintendo Switch launch title – however, a new Super Mario game just might. In regards to the Switch, mums the word from Nintendo until next year.
The next major event for the console is scheduled for January 12, 2017. Defenders of the Triforce will begin shortly after, at the end of January.
