Bob Ross is a popular artist among many, achieving the majority of his fame through his program The Joy of Painting, where he demonstrated how to paint landscapes for his viewers. While many enjoyed following along to teach themselves how to paint, others simply enjoyed listening to the man speak, as he was generally very positive and had a soothing voice to listen to. While Bob Ross has since passed away, he’s still a popular figure in pop culture and among art fans.

Bob Ross’ name is now attached to a great deal of merchandise that either capitalizes on his overall popularity or helps to continue the effort of teaching people how to paint. One such fan, TheRealKaz on Reddit, received a Bob Ross painting kit for Christmas and decided to paint Death Mountain and Hyrule Field from The Legend of Zelda as their first attempt with the set. The result is charming, with soft color making the field and even the looming mountain look welcoming. Taking a close look at the painting reveals the careful effort in shadows and textures, making the mountains look appropriately rocky, and the foliage fluffy. Any non-Zelda fan would likely still appreciate the piece as a charming landscape painting.

Zelda fans in the comments have been quick to share their praise with the artist. One claimed that Bob Ross himself would be proud, which is in keeping with the warm and welcoming attitude towards he held toward viewers and fans. Another made a casual joke referencing a classic Bob Ross line, saying that there aren’t mistakes, just “happy little Gorons,” a take on his “happy little accidents” quote. Others simply shared their appreciation for the painting and the gift.

Many gamers likely had Zelda on their minds during the Christmas season and going forward, with the promise of Tears of the Kingdom’s release landing this year. There’s a lot that’s yet to be revealed about the game, but that only seems to be intensifying anticipation, rather than undermining it. Nintendo has had a number of massive hits on its hands recently with the release of Splatoon 3 and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and the Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel will likely continue that trend into 2023.
