When preparing for her role as Selina Kyle/Catwoman in The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader, the 33-year-old actress had to study every aspect of her character. That included Catwoman’s mannerisms and fighting style to the relationship she has with her beloved pets, which required getting to know Kravitz’s non-human costars.

During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Kravitz revealed that besides training for the film’s action sequences and rehearsal, her schedule for The Batman featured “cat time,” which was supposed to help the actress bond with her feline co-stars. “They were the hardest thing to control during the shooting,” she told host Jimmy Fallon. “We were doing crazy stunts and all that was fine, but then getting a cat to stay in one place? Impossible.”
Kravitz went on to explain what “cat time” consisted of and revealed that, while intentions were good, the activity didn’t work because, as fans all know, cats are unpredictable. “It’s funny, they would say, ‘Training at 1:30, and then rehearsal at this time, and then cat time,’” she recalled. “I was like, ‘What’s cat time?’ And it was just putting me in a room with a bunch of cats, with the cats that were going to be my cats. But the cats didn’t care. I was just sitting here, and the cats would just walk away. It did nothing.”
In the interview, Kravitz also said that she drank milk from a bowl and watched cat videos to analyze their fighting style. As for her approach to Catwoman, the actress previously shared that she kept in mind Eartha Kitt’s 1960 biracial version of Catwoman while also trying to give a unique twist to the part.
In addition to Kravitz and Pattinson, The Batman stars Paul Dano as the Riddler, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, among several other actors. The anticipated film debuted domestically on March 4 after two COVID-related delays.
The Batman is currently playing in theaters.
